It makes sense when buying a new computer to go ahead and get the most current operating system available, as long as it will be trouble free.
That said, unless you are unhappy for some reason with your current version of Windows, the expense of upgrading to Windows Vista is really not justified at this point. That will undoubtedly change when the software publishers start releasing new versions. You will also need to consider the cost of upgrading those software packages when that time comes.
